This bench was a gift for my sister’s wedding. It was inspired by a coffee table that my late grandfather designed that now sits in my sister’s house. In his design the solid square legs and underbelly of the table are made of cherry and the table top is made of thick black slate. I took the materials and flipped their usage. My hollow square sides and support structure are made of 1/4” steel bar and my bench top is made of wenge.
With the basic design in mind I played with the widths, ratios, and positions, until I found a configuration that fit.
