Welcome Desk

Designed for: Lehigh University

The desk was inspired by the architecture of Lehigh University’s Alumni Memorial Building Inspired. The shape of the desk echoes the large gothic arches seen throughout the building. And the walnut detailing at the front and along the sides of the desk come from the engraved pattern above the back doorway of the building.

Designing with a Team

A group of designers and engineers were selected to design a new welcome desk for Lehigh University. The goal of my design was to reflect the aesthetic of the building, maximize the space inside the desk, and minimize its impact to the natural flow of traffic through the building. After designing the basic shape and concept I worked with my team to integrate their concepts into the design and utilize their skills. In the end it was a design we were all proud of.

Building the Desk

In order to achieve an arch like shape we welded an internal structure created separate wooden panels to attach to it. The walnut detailing for the wood panels was CNC routed.
